Friendster fires employee for blog posts
Just thought I should pass this along to everyone in our community. I find it really interesting that Friendster would fire someone over something like this. The developer didn’t even do anything that I would think would be wrong, at least by looking at her blog.
One thing she did do was talk about other services like LinkedIn and Orkut and how she used them as well, but how the hell can that cause something like this?
I dunno, you may all want to talk to your employer about what their blogging policies are. I know I made my blogging addiction clear up-front to the new boss and he didn’t seem to have a problem with it as long as I wasn’t trashing the company or giving out trade secrets. And that’s the way it should be. For a company like Friendster to fire someone for using social software as a medium seems pretty ludicrous to me.

Stuff like that always amazes me. I always wonder if companies use something like this as an excuse. For example, maybe the job was done (or far enough along) and they didn’t need her anymore. Probably saves them quite a bit of money by cutting her loose, so they drummed up a convenient excuse and whack.
Take care,
Mike
