My TiVo is getting a work out. GREAT new shows.
I’m really glad to see that Studio 60 got picked up for another season. It’s really my favorite show on television right now. The actors rock, the writing is VERY good and the show tackles a lot of good topics like religion and racism. Doesn’t sound like a funny show, but trust me, it is.
I also really like Jericho. Jericho is the story of nuclear bombs going off all around the country and what little Jericho, Kansas does in the aftermath. Some people might not like the show due to the fact that you can imagine it happening, but I think that’s what gives me a little chill every time I watch it. What would you do if you had no contact with the outside world, no food and no electricity? It’s something that is entertaining, but it really makes you think.
Heroes is another really good show. These seemingly normal people are all showing up with abilities, there seems to be a government cover-up (maybe) and throw in a superhuman serial killer that steals people’s powers for good measure. One thing this show does that Lost doesn’t is give us answers pretty much every week at a very fast pace. They also create more questions, but so far I haven’t gotten frustrated with the show as I have with Lost.
Lastly, Friday Night Lights. I’m a sucker for (American) football drama and this has plenty of it. It follows the coach who must win at all costs, the backup quarterback thrown into a starting role, the former starting quarterback who becomes paralyzed from the waist down, the alcoholic best friend of the QB who sleeps with the QB’s girlfriend, the aforementioned cheerleader girlfriend and more. Plenty of on and off the field drama. Oh, did I mention they are in high school?
All-in-all, this has been one of the best crops of new TV I can remember in a LONG time. Thank goodness for TiVo.

Hey John,
I’ve also caught Studio 60 fever. It has to be one of the smartest shows in years, in that it somehow manages to entertain while delivering scathing social commentary that covers all the hot-button issues of the day.

Heroes is a definite must watch for my family. I love the style of not having a complete ending at the conclusion of each episode.
I just finished watching The Lost Room mini-series on Sci-Fi. A very good series for any network, but especially a cable channel.
I wanted to get into Jericho, but it was in a bad time slot for me. And since I already have too much to do to sit in front of the tv too long, I decided to let that one go.
