WSE gets a second chance – on THIS server
As you may recall, my previous WSE experiences have been less than stellar. So now that it’s a new version, we can use DB2 Express and we’re installing on a BEHEMOTH of a server, it better deliver the goods. If it doesn’t, I think I’m through with Workplace.
If it doesn’t work out, we can always use it like Declan laid out in IM:
4 Dual-Core Xeons – $10K
17GB of RAM – 15K
Playing Doom at breakneck speeds – Priceless

Better keep an eye out on that 8th proc – looks like it’s running away! It should definitely work for you now!

Looking forward to your results.
There is a whitepaper at IBM called “IBM Workplace Services Express 2.5 Tuning Guide”
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/workplace/library/d-wp-wsetuningguide/
Chapter 5 reads:
In a multi-processor system, administrators have the ability to force a process to run only on one specific processor in the system (either processor 1, or 2).
For WSE dual processor configuration we have found that by forcing the Java.exe process to run on processor 0 only, we can support more concurrent users. Otherwise a dual processor application server will fail beyond 80 concurrent users.
Are you planning to use somekind of stresstesting tool on your installation? Would be fun to see if the breakingpoint on your system is 80*4 or 80/4 concurrent users

Bah, Declan needs to get his facts straight … Doom never had a server, it was all Peer to Peer. Today’s shooters, like Doom3, Quake4, Battlefield2, etc do have a dedicated server, but the speed of the client machine has nothinig to do with the power of the box the server is running on … I run mine quake4 server on a win2k box with 512 or ram and its blazing fast.

I never said anything about running a ‘Doom Server’ on this box. I want to actually play Doom on this box…
( or Quake, or Unreal or even Obvilion… )

Wow, Did you have to get Les drunk to approve the $$ for that server?
