A little smoke and mirrors about the rich client…
From what I’ve been hearing, the little demo we saw of the rich client is a LITTLE misleading when it came to showing a Notes NSF. Basically, the stuff will work great in the new rich client IF all of the advanced functionality is programmed in JAVA. So, although it’s nice that you can see NSF files in the rich client, it isn’t going to be as seamless as we would like. I hope this rumour is JUST a rumour and the rich client will need nothing special to see legacy Notes apps, but only running advanced Java functions does make sense from a technology perspective… I guess we’ll see in four months.

Actually, what I heard was quite different. The person in the Developer’s lab said that you needed (currently) to install the whole Notes client on the machine, and what we saw was basically an Active X that used the Notes DLLs. He also swore that you could use LotusScript, and even LSXs, inside the app, given that it was really just Notes. Of course, it is not clear what that does for Linux or any other platform.

Yeah, I had heard that in your Web Co-existence session and it makes a lot more sense, but is even worse that the scenario that I heard of. No longer a rich client but a hugely fat client with a side of Notes!
