SuSE, Novell, and IBM

Well you can read about it here, but Novell has bought SuSE Linux, and IBM has invested $50 million dollars into the venture. This is interesting for a lot of reasons. One, Novell has a bunch of rights from their previous ownership of Unix. This could help IBM out in the SCO lawsuit, thus the $50 million investment. Novell also owns Ximian, which provides Linux desktop software. This gives Novell a new platform to move people off of Netware and on to Linux. This is a huge strategy for them, and I’m sure another thorn in Microsoft’s side.  The Linux desktop could get pretty interesting in the coming months.
