Clearing the carotid

Wow, it’s been over a week since I posted. Guess I need to get on the ball. 🙂 Well, what new news to tell? First off, my Mom is undergoing surgery tomorrow to clean out a clogged Carotid artery. She’s smoked all her life, and that probably contributed to it the most. She goes under the knife at 7AM. I’ve talked to lots of people who say that this procedure is very common now and nothing to worry about. I truly hope they are right, because I’m scared shitless for my Mom right now. Of course I couldn’t tell her that because I don’t want her to worry. I’m just uneasy, and I hope everything goes well.

You may be asking yourself, “Why isn’t he going to Iowa to be with her?” Good question. First of all, on Saturday morning, the family and I board a plane for Florida. Secondly, I would have had to jump in the car after work tonight and driven the 4 hours to Dubuque. Normally it’s not a problem, but tonight along my path, the wind chills would be anywhere from -25 to -45 degrees F. If the car broke down, or I had an accident, then the wind would be unforgiving. Plus Mom & Dad both didn’t want me driving after working all day. The last thing Mom needs is to be worrying about whether I make it to their house or not the night before her surgery. I know it’s a logical decision, but it just doesn’t feel right to me. I truly hope all of my dread is unfounded.

If everything goes well with Mom, then I’ll be flying to Florida as planned on Saturday morning. It’s for the annual Lotus conference called Lotusphere. I’ll give you more info on that later, but right now I feel petty writing about Disney and @Commands.
