Birthday 2.0?

Yesterday I turned 38.

Now if you have followed the blog, you’ve known that my birthdays generally suck. Despite my family and everyone’s best efforts, it just seems to happen that way.

So this year I decided to try to minimize the damage. The eldest daughter had dance class until 8PM, so instead of trying to orchestrate anything, I left work and went to the cigar shop and enjoyed a couple cigars. Then I went to White Castle and snagged some burgers. Made it home before the girls returned, and they brought me ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery. We enjoyed some ice cream, and then my daughters gave me Rock Band 2 for the XBox 360. We put the girls to bed and then I enjoyed a slow dance in the living room with my wife to Ingrid Michaelson’s version of Can’t Help Falling In Love.

So in all, it all went wonderfully. Then, this year there was a new aspect. Facebook and Twitter. I received so many birthday wishes on those two platforms, and I got them all day long. There is nothing better than to be constantly reminded of all of your friends. Every time I received one, it made the day a little better. So it wasn’t just a birthday, it was Birthday 2.0. And it was pretty great. Thanks to my girls, my wife, and all my friends out there. You took what has traditionally been a crappy day, and made it something special.
